The Saginaw wrestling teams competed in the District 4-5A Wrestling Championships on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Azle High School. The boys team finished 9th out of 12 teams overall with two district finalists. Rylan Luttmer won by tech fall and by pin to advance to the championship. Enrique Santacruz wrestled extremely well on his way to the championship. Senior Charles Loving wrestled well and avenged some losses from earlier in the season to secure a regional spot.

The girls team finished 10th out of 12 teams with two placers and a district finalist. Two girls qualified for the regional tournament. Amaya Briscoe picked up two second period pins to advance to the championship match. Bianca Cardenas lost to the eventual district champion but bounced back with a double overtime win to secure third and qualify for regionals.

The Region 1 5A Championships will be held at the First United Bank Center at the West Texas A&M University on Feb. 10-11. Good luck to all the athletes that are competing!
